Floods

Is the occupation by water in areas that are inhabited, are given by overflowing rivers, the tide rises above the usual level caused by landslides or tsunamis.

Situation in Colombia:
November 13, 1985 - The tragedy of Armero was an avalanche of mud and water caused by melting of the Nevado del Ruiz, caused by a volcanic eruption, causing the total destruction of the city of Armero with 25,000 deaths among whom was Omayra Sánchez girl

The floods in our country have caused enormous damage, including destruction of homes, transportation, and thousands of hectares of crops.Colombia needs everyone's help to get food, water and shelter for victims.

Landslide

A landslide is a type of mass movement of earth caused by the instability of a slope.
These movements are produced by different types of causes. To overcome the shear strength of a material over an area of weakness or through a narrow band of less resistant material than the rest.

Landslides on slopes are a common injury of the crust, and are usually associated with heavy rainfall. Sometimes occur in adverse or unusual geological formations, and because of excavations.

Landslides and mass movements are not the same in all cases, and in order to avoid them is essential to know the causes and how they originate. Here are some of the most common:
  • Fall
  • Rops
  • Slide
  • Earth Flow
  • Mud Flow
  • Creep

  1. How to prevent landslide?
  • Do not be swayed by promises and illusory easy to get a lot or a house will probably want to sell in an area susceptible to creep.
  • Do not cut in the mountains unless you are absolutely sure of the resistance
  • Do not allow water to seep inside the mountain
  • Do not allow the use of explosives in areas prone to landslides.
  •  If you observe a principle of sliding notify the Local Emergency Committee, at City Hall.
